How does Walt Disney Represent reality?
Disney represents reality to little children by putting a spin on it. By this we mean, it shows reality but so that it doesn’t scare them; it makes it an enjoyment to watch. At the same time, it unconciously teaches them about the reality of life.
What is the combination between Disney & Pixar?
In a $7.4 billion deal, Disney purchased Pixar Animtion Studios. It has been debated weather this was a mega-merger combination between two animation super-powers or if it was Disney trying to eliminate its stiffest competition in the market.

Are the attractions of going to the cinema today sufficiently strong to compare against other ways in which we can now watch films?
Over time, for some people, the satisfaction of going to the cinema to see a film is decreasing. The attraction is no longer the same as we have created different ways to watch the newest film releases in the comfort of our own homes. For example one way to watch films at home is on DVD, either legally or illegally. People can record films at the cinema and put the onto DVD’s called pirate copies. Its easier to watch films at home, like pirate copies, because it’s more comfortable and you might have the option of pausing or rewinding the film because of bits you might have missed. Having a DVD of a new release is also a better option as it means you watch it more than once, without paying more money to see it more than once.
Another way to watch newly released films without visiting the cinema would be to download them illegally off the internet. For some people this is a better option as it means they can watch them on their computers while they are, maybe, working, or doing something else. Also with the option to download movies off the internet there is a chance that they could be written onto a DVD.
Personally, I still get a real buzz from visiting the cinema. I love knowing that a new film is coming out, and having the chance to go and see it in that atmosphere. The whole atmosphere of being at the cinema is completely different to watching a film at home. The surround sound in the cinema is amazing, and completely different to what you experience in the home; every single sound is emphasised and can be heard so well, in so much detail. The picture at the cinema is also a lot better quality and with the screen being so much bigger, you feel that bit more involved with the characters and the story line.

Discuss moments in the film when you know more about what is going on than a character or characters. How does this ‘knowledge’ contribute to your experience or enjoyment of the film? Does it add to the suspense? Even though you know more than a character such as Arbogast as he climbs the stairs, what does Hitchcock do to ensure that we still experience shock in this scene? How important is dramatic irony in a suspense film? (200 words)
There are several points during the film ‘Psycho’ where Dramatic Irony is used to add to the suspense of the film.
One point where dramatic irony is used is during the scenes where Marion Crane steals the money. We see Marion leave work with the money and we believe she is taking it to the bank, and then going home, which are the same beliefs that her boss have. However, the audience discover different as we see her arrive home, still with the money, and makes a decision to flee the town, with the $40,000. This is dramatic irony as we know she has stolen the money and her boss and workmates do not. Dramatic irony is used here because it adds to the suspense of her stealing the money, and the fact that she may get caught.
Another point where the tension is built due to dramatic irony is the scene at the Motel, where Marion is in the shower. This is the scene in which she is murdered. Dramatic irony is used here as we know Norman Bates is behind the shower curtain, dressed as his mother, coming to get her. The dramatic irony is used, again to create tension and to build the anxiety that the audience feels.
A third point in the film where dramatic irony is used effectively is during the murder of Abrogast. Although we don’t see Abrogast get killed physically, the tension is built so highly through the use of dramatic irony. As Abrogast climbs the stairs to find any evidence he can about Norman Bates’ mother, we see someone, who we automatically assume to be Bates, leave the bedroom. As he climbs the stairs, it would seem he has ultimate power, as he is getting higher. But when Bates leaves the room we ultimately know that Abrogast is now made inferior. The dramatic irong in this scene is that we seen Bates leaving the room and Abrogast is none the wiser. It’s effective because we know how important he is in the case of Marion’s murder and we don’t want him to die so he can find more evidence. This is particularly effective as Abrogast is not even aware when Bates murders him, as he is faced the wrong way.
The use of dramatic irony is consistant throughout the whole film. It adds to the overall enjoyment of the film because it makes you feel like you are actually there, and ultimately gives you a sense of you really being involved in the murders. The dramatic irony adds to the whole suspense of the film, and makes you enjoy it so much more, as you are constantly on the edge of your seat, and makes you want to shout at the TV screen!
